Thames & Kosmos My Robotic Pet: Coding Chameleon
Thames & Kosmos My Robotic Pet: Coding Chameleon (133 pieces, ages 8+ with help) — about $26–$55 · about 4.1 stars — flagged: the weakest rating in this department. It clears the three-star floor and holds a 2026 Educational Toy of the Year title, but it is not in the same league as the picks above.
Screen-free coding: physical color action cards program a robot chameleon with color and infrared sensors, in Coding, Wild, and Pet modes — no app, no screen. The blind-buyer angle: the robot moves and reacts to touch, so you feel and hear the result of the program. Caveats: the action cards are color-coded (visual), and assembly needs adult help under 12.
